The Last Days of the Post Office

Timothy Birdnow

The U.S. Postal Service appears to be on it's last legs.

This is so typically liberal; instead of improving service and getting rid of dead wood (which a LOT of the employees at the USPS represent) their answer is to raise prices. Yeah; that'll fix things!

I had to set a relative straight about this; she argued it was Trump's fault because DOGE cut their funding. I had to explain to her that the Post Office is actually a private company wholly owned by the U.S. government but with it's own funding mechanism (stamps) and that DOGE had nothing to do with any deficit. The USPS just spent too much money and failed to run efficiently and now wants taxpayers to bail them out.

But why? You can get the same services from Fedex for cheaper and get it more efficiently.

Postal workers are represented by the American Postal Worker's Union, and they have systematically looted the USPS funds for decades now, and protected incompetent or lazy workers. Now those chickens are coming home to roost.

Yes, daily mail has become digital and so fewer people are sending paper letters and bills and whatnot, but that should mean cheaper prices, not higher. If you want to increase business you cut prices, not raise them.

While it's a sad thing the post office is no longer needed. Perhaps it's time to let it die an unlamented death.

Who Will Rid Us of this Meddlesome Pope?

Timothy Birdnow

I said when Pope Leo was elevated in the conclave that he - an American - was only chosen to act as a counterbalance to President Trump and to give authority to Papal scolding of Trump and the MAGA movement.

Yes, the Pope is meeting with David Axelrod, old deadfish himself. (He's called that because he once sent a dead fish to a political enemy, much like the Five Families sent Sonny a dead fish to send the message "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes" in The Godfather.)

While Axelrod was known primarily as Obama's Consigliere he has also been prominent in other Democratic circles. There certainly is nothing that would warrant the Holy Father (sic) to meet with this political enemy of President Trump and, frankly, of America.

From X:

Christopher Hale
@ChristopherHale
NEW: Pope Leo XIV met with David Axelrod this morning.

Axelrod was chief strategist for President Obama in his 2008 and 2012 presidential campaign.

As I reported last month, there are early talks between Vatican officials and President Obama’s circle about a meeting between the two men.

Donald Trump hasn't even spoken to the pope. Obama may meet him first.

end

It is extraordinarily difficult to get a private meeting with the Pope and that honor is usually reserved for heads of state, not political hit-men.

Oh, Axelrod is from Chicago, same as Leo.

And he's not even Catholic but rather Jewish by birth and atheist by choice. Oh, and he comes from a Marxist family. So why does he warrant this singular honor?

You know what. They are colluding ways to block President Trump and overturn his policies.

This Pope has already meddled in American affairs, attacking Trump for his deportation efforts and for the war in Iran. He has acted in a blatantly political way and is courting schism in the Church.

Axelrod is a big fan of abortion, euthanasia, transvestism, homosexuality, and a host of other things that are anathema to the Chuch - the spirit of Antichrist. Yet here the Pope is getting together for a tet-a-tet. I doubt it's just to drink tea and bemoan the Cubs.

If it were another man I would say maybe he was hoping to save Axelrod's soul, but this Pontiff has never shown an especially keen sense of evangelization. No, it's pretty clearly a political meeting, one not offered to the current President.

This is all about undermining America First, make no mistake about that.

Polar Ice Loss Should Slow Earth's Rotation - it's Speeding Up

Timothy Birdnow

I've touched on this in prior posts but this goes into greater detail than I did.

The author points out that a loss of ice mass in the polar region should slow the planet's rotation but atomic clocks show it speeding up.

FTA:

The first thing to understand is that melting ice at the poles can change Earth’s moment of inertia because mass is being moved from near the rotation axis toward lower latitudes through the oceans. The key idea being that mass close to the spin axis contributes less to moment of inertia, while mass farther from the spin axis contributes more. So, if polar ice melts and that water spreads across the globe, especially toward the equator, Earth’s moment of inertia increases.

The second point is the effect on Earth’s rotation. Higher moment of inertia results in a slightly slower rotation rate, since angular momentum is conserved. This principle of physics is utilized by a spinning figure skater whose rate of spin slows down when she extends her arms. So, the basic physics is in place such that ice melt that shifts mass away from the poles tends to slow Earth’s rotation slightly. The third point to be made is that Earth’s rotation can be measured quite accurately with an atomic clock.

Now here is the kicker, since 1970, the Earth’s rotation has sped up. Take a look at the graph below. It plots the annual average Earth rotation-rate anomaly from the IERS long-term Earth orientation series. (The source directory lists the eopc01.iau2000.1846-now file, and that file includes an LOD column for length of day. In the early part of the file, LOD is filled with the placeholder 99.990000, so the usable plotted LOD record starts in 1956 and runs to 2026.)

[...]

How does one square the empirical data on Earth’s rotation with polar melting ice?

It has been widely believed that sea level has been rising at a steady rate since the end of the last glacial period. Some of that was attributed to thermal expansion of the ocean, and some was attributed to polar ice melt. However, climate scientists have been insisting that the rate of polar ice melting has increased due to climate change and brought with it an acceleration in GMSL rise. But how could that be if the Earth is rotating faster since 1970? Remember: faster rotation implies lower moment of inertia which implies accumulating, not melting, polar ice mass. I will leave it to the reader to come to their own conclusion.

And there has been no increase in the rate of sea level rise, despite "corrections" in the data made by the powers that be that suddenly discovered it was increasing because they claim we started with too high a baseline.

And this despite decades of ICESAT data showing Antarctica has gained ice mass.

I could go on but you get the point.

Oh, and NASA data is entirely suspect and has been for years.

So we are left with an assertion without any supporting evidence.

The Trump-Iran Deal

Timothy Birdnow

Just another stalling tactic by Iran? That's what I think.

Trump has to walk a fine line; he has to be hard enough to make the moderate and mildly hard-liners know he will destroy them but not so soft as to make them believe they can pull the wool over his eyes. What is needed is to get the factions inside the Iranian government fighting, and to nurture the reasonable and freeze out the hard-liners. If he pushes too hard he will turn them all into hard-liners.

Sun Tzu said that a good general will "leave a golden bridge of retreat" for his enemies because if he puts their backs to the wall they will fight to the death. You give them an out. Trump has read his Sun Tzu. (So have I.) But so, apparently, have the Iranians.

I think this is a stall and the first hint of a violation should lead to a major retaliation just to prove we aren't playing. But not so hard as to turn the moderates away from us.

What we should do is if the Iranians block even one ship or try to make them pay a toll we should bomb the coastline around the strait until it looks like the surface of the Moon and keep it as a no-man's land, barring their entry into the area as we let the shipping continue.

I fear President Trump, eager to cut a deal, may not do what is necessary to win this.

Judge Orders Hegseth to Let MSM Run Amok

Timothy Birdnow

Why now? Because we are at war and the Left wants to be able to sabotage the military actions of the Department of War (as they were doing before Hegsesth came into office) by leaking information they had no right to possess in the first place.

If the mainstream media is allowed to attend press briefings that is more than meeting the requirements of the First Amendment. Secrecy is important to national security and this judge has to know that.

But that's not what they want.

Before Hegseth it was a free-for-all in the Pentagon with reporters wandering about willy-nilly, going into any room they pleased, chatting with anyone they pleased, overhearing conversations that were privileged. It was inexcusable and Hegseth put an end to it. He also banned some reporters, reporters who were known leakers or lying about the Administration, from full access. That is hardly a violation of the First Amendment.

That Amendment says "freedom of the press...shall not be infringed". That is a world of difference from saying you have to grant intimate access. They are free to say what they wish, but there is no promise of being given information as they pleased.

This expanded view of the First Amendment hs been used by the Left for decades to erode many of our norms and this is no exception.

This judge has ruled this way now (he has ruled the Department of War violated an earlier order from him) and is now demanding full access for the media. But I wonder; does that include, say, The Aviary? Does it include the Gateway Pundit? American Spectator? Who does this blackrobed mandarin define as media? If everyone is entitled to access then there is no security in the Pentagon at all.

We desperately need to define the meaning of a right. A right does not impose an obligation on someone else; it's something you possess inherently and is something you have the right to exercise without being obstructed, but it in no way demands others to assist you. You have the right to free speech but not to have people listen to you. You have the right to write what you see and believe but you do not have the right to unfettered access to everything.

That was the argument used by Don Lemon when he invaded a church and was arrested; by virtue of his being "in the press" (he's actually just a podcaster) he believes he has the right to trespass and disrupt a church service. But he doesn't and his press credentials only protect him from government interference with his lawful activities.

Interestingly enough the Left is using this very argument against people like Nick Shirley, saying he has no right to go to government-sponsored daycares and ask questions, even though he's never said he has an unlimited right to enter. He just asks and if denied entry he leaves. But the Democrats and Left make the conservative argument when it's in their interest yet dump it when it's not - as here.

The very fact that this distinction eludes the judge in this case speaks volumes about how badly jurists are trained these days; this is, or should be, basic common sense and the Founding Fathers never intended for the First Amendment to be used to subvert our nation's defenses. But here we are because the Democrats have appointed these clowns and the Republicans did nothing to stop them.

Agreement to Purge NC Voter Rolls

Timothy Birdnow

Well goooollleeey! I thought non-citizens never voted!

The state of North Carolina continued to leave people on the voers rolls despite them admitting they were non-citizens who were not entitled to vote. This agreement would make the state remove them.

That's what the Democrats call "voter suppression".

Marc Elias Fears Todd Blanche

Timothy Birdnow

Marc Alias, one of the worst of the worst Democrat operatives in America, is terrified of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and he made no bones about it in a recent interview.

Elias is the guy who created the Steele Dossier to smear then-candidate Trump as a "Russian asset".

Elias has the gall to complain about the firing of some of these deep state operatives in the DOJ for working with Jack Smith, after what they tried to do to Mr. Trump. (BTW government lawyers work at the pleasure of the President and Mr. Clinton fired all U.S. attorneys when he took office, I might add.)

Elias said:

"It’s a very, very, very dangerous day in democracy here, its not just that we have a madman conducting our foreign policy. We have a dictator surrounded by sycophants who are using the power of the state, the power of the federal government to target his political opponents and his political adversaries. And as we head towards elections, we should just expect a lot more of this.”

And yet Mr. Elias is still walking around free and hasn't been killed by a stray bullet or died after eating out or whatnot. Odd way to run a dictatorship.

Elias is one of the worst, most dangerous men in America. If HE fears Todd Blanche then we are in good hands.

He should fear whoever is running the DOJ because he has repeatedly broken the law and justice may be slow but it comes eventually.

The Government Plot to Censor Free Speech

Timothy Birdnow

How an Obama-era creation targeted The Blaze media outlet in using a counter-terrorism program to suppress free speech in the United States.

Yes, they actually did that.

Like the Devil this organization has gone by many names, starting out as the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications and then being known as the Gobal Engagement Center, and finally the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub.. President Trump finally killed the accursed thing in his second term.

From the article:

Prior to negotiating a deal with the State Department and settling the case last week, the Federalist obtained discovery evidence confirming that the Global Engagement Center had regularly backed and promoted censorial technologies including NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index.

Blaze Media previously reported that NewsGuard and the Global Disinformation Index generated blacklists of supposedly risky or misleading news outfits with the aim of getting them demonetized and directing funds to news organizations that advanced establishment narratives.

In the Global Disinformation Index's fall 2022 report, for example, NPR, the Washington Post, and other liberal news outfits were labeled as the "least risky sites," whereas Blaze Media, Reason, the Federalist, the Daily Wire, the New York Post, and other conservative publications made the top 10 list of "riskiest sites" and were smeared as having the "greatest level of disinformation risk."

It turns out that Blaze Media was targeted for more than just a blacklist.

In an August 2020 press release, NewsGuard showcased that it and two other technology companies — PeakMetrics and Omelas — had won a $25,000 contract earlier that year offered jointly by the State Department and the Pentagon to develop solutions that would help the departments evaluate "disinformation narrative themes in near real time 'by identifying online sources spreading COVID-19 disinformation or misinformation narratives.'"

The Federalist obtained evidence that these Global Engagement Center-funded companies ran a test from Dec. 14, 2020, until Jan. 7, 2021, wherein Blaze Media was apparently a featured target.

The Global Engagement Center reportedly explained ahead of time that the test would entail PeakMetrics "first identify[ing] popular yet potentially divisive narratives relevant to the U.S. elections that are trending across channels."

Omelas, in turn, was supposed to provide "evidence of direct attribution of these narratives to state-sponsored sources of disinformation."

After PeakMetrics and Omelas assessed which narratives were becoming "integrated into domestic messaging," NewsGuard "would highlight which sites the narratives continue to surface from and 'provide information on the reliability, popularity, and endurance of the sites and dissemination platforms,'" reported the Federalist.

This is a blatant violation of the First Amendment and it should have gotten a lot of people tossed in jail. Of course they are all still out there enjoying their ill-gotten gains.

If America is "home of the free" then it cannot have such abuse by it's governmet of media outlets and the people who seek those outlets out. It's disgraceful.

And the Left calls defunding PBS "censorship" when in fact they are quick to censor actual information which hurts their political power.

Trump killing Start/Stop System on Cars

Timothy Birdnow

Thank the good Lord for this! This is a huge pain in the posterior!

Obama forced the hated start/stop feature on new cars, where they literally shut off when the car stops, as at red lights.

It's a terrible idea that is hard on the engine and means you can't get off the line quickly in traffic.

Thanks to an Obama credit to manufacturers this feature - on fewer than 1% of cars prior, rose to 59% of all new cars by 2024.

So Trump has eliminated the credit and told manufacturers to give the People what they want - a vehicle that runs smoothly and has acceleration.

I've never owned one but I imagine a very cold day in a heavy traffic area would be a nightmare.

As they article points out the air conditioning shuts down at every red light. So I assume the engine would never warm up on a cold day either.

This is a terrible idea whose time is well past.

The Madness of Tucker

Timothy Birdnow

Tucker Carlson has gone insane. What has that guy been injecting into his arm?

Like all turncoats (think Benedict Arnold) Mr. Carlson has lost all credibility and now nobody trusts him or listens to him anymore. He's trying to get in good with the Left so he can stay on television and keep his fame going (it's been a bit more than 15 minutes but it's running out now). But the Left will never trust him and he's burned his bridges with the Right.

Benedict Arnold, despite being given a commission in the British army, never commanded any troops again; the British simply couldn't trust him. In the end he died largely penniless in London, a stranger in a foreign land. His sad end is pretty normal for guys who pull this kind of thing. Tucker Carlson will be no different.

San Francisco Judge Blocks Hegseth from Ditching Anthropic

Panama Canal Bridge Blown

Timothy Birdnow

Iran or China?

Both would have a reason to try to close the canal. Iran more than China, but the Chicoms are mad about losing control of the canal to the U.S.

Do note this in no way imperils the canal itself but it does hurt Panama, cutting the capital off from the western part of the country. That seems like the kind of thing the Chicoms would do; it's to punish Panama as opposed to closing the canal. Iran would want to close the canal.

Any way you slice it I seriously doubt this was just an accident.

A Republican Amnesty Plan for Illegal Aliens

Timothy Birdnow

You would think after the election of Dobald Trump that the Republicans at least would have learned that amnesty is despised by the public yet here we are with an amnesty plan coming from Republicans.

This scheme - being introduced by Republican rep. Maria Elvira Salaza, is and Mike Lawler being referred to as the DIGNITY ACT but it's actual name is the Dignidad Act, and the name alone is insultingly Espaniole.

It will allow illegal aliens to stay in the U.S. and get work permits if they pay a fine aka it's an amnesty.

Sadly a bunch of Republicans have signed on to this:

H.R. 4393 DIGNIDAD Act

California (CA)
• Rep. David G. Valadao (CA-22)
• Rep. Young Kim (CA-40)
Colorado (CO)
• Rep. Gabe Evans (CO-8)
Florida (FL)
• Rep. María Elvira Salazar (FL-27)
• Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26)
• Rep. Neal P. Dunn (FL-2)
Iowa (IA)
• Rep. Zachary Nunn (IA-3)
Indiana (IN)
• Rep. Marlin A. Stutzman (IN-3)
• Rep. James R. Baird (IN-4)
Nebraska (NE)
• Rep. Don Bacon (NE-2)
New York (NY)
• Rep. Michael Lawler (NY-17)
• Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-1)
Pennsylvania (PA)
• Rep. Mike Kelly (PA-16)
• Rep. Brian K. Fitzpatrick (PA-1)
• Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11)
Texas (TX)
• Rep. Monica De La Cruz (TX-15)
Virginia (VA)
• Rep. Jennifer A. Kiggans (VA-2)
Washington (WA)
• Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-4)

This is just mind-boggling; the American public HATES illegal immigration and has demanded we put an end to it. Over eighty percent of the public opposes amnesty according to almost all polls - a monumental figure. Yet here we have the REPUBLICANS supporting an amnesty, an amnesty that will give the Democrats a big boost in political power. This after seeing how support for border security and the rest has been wildly popular and taken the GOP from losers to winners.

They are either insane or traitors - take your pick.

The old Establishment Republican Party was enthusiastically in favor of amnesty, you may remember. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce wanted it, for instance, and the Republicans wanted their money. So they supported something that was killing the United States and killing their own party and apparently are still willing to do so.

This proves that we still have a lot of work to do to secure the GOP. It is still full of Quislings and traitors and self-seeking scoundrels who do not care about America but only about lining their own pockets.

Jersey Democrats Melt Down at USPS Over Mail in Voting

Timothy Birdnow

New Jersey Democrats - all of them - sent a letter to the United States Postal Service demanding they ignore President Trump's executive order directing them to only deliver mail in ballots to verified U.S. citizens.

Seems the idea of only allowing citizens to vote is too much for them. Now why do you suppose that is?

Solar Storms Trigger Earthquakes

Timothy Birdnow

There is a connection between solar flares and earthquakes.

Researchers at Kyoto University found there was a link between these flares and earthquakes and that because the delicate balance in forces inside the Earth were being pushed by magnetic resonance.

So, if these storms cause Earthquakes are they perhaps also causing the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide? We've seen a decided uptik in solar storms in recent years, especially after 2008, but going well back before (in 1989 a big solar storm knocked out Quebec's power grid, for instance). If these storms trigger quakes, why wouldn't they trigger outgassing of carbon dioxide?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Oceans Healthier than Ever

Timothy Birdnow

Researchers at the University of Washington Seattle came up with simple yet brilliant idea o how to track ocean health - they opened old cans of salmon and counted the worms imbedded in the seafood.

These worms - anisakids - are often present in such fish and do not pose a health hazard to consumers.

So why do it? The researchers figured that the presence of these parasites would give us a glimpse into ocean health; a healthier ocean would probably see more of these little parasites than an unhealthy ocean.

So what did they find?

"The team's findings, published in Ecology & Evolution, showed that anisakid levels increased in chum and pink salmon between 1979 and 2021. In coho and sockeye salmon, parasite levels remained steady.

"Anisakids have a complex life cycle that requires many types of hosts," said Mastick, who is lead author on the paper. "Seeing their numbers rise over time, as we did with pink and chum salmon, indicates that these parasites were able to find all the right hosts and reproduce. That could indicate a stable or recovering ecosystem, with enough of the right hosts for anisakids."'

Which means the oceans have been getting healthier DESPITE rising carbon dioxide levels in the Earth's atmosphere (and supposedly in her oceans). So what does that tell us class? If anything carbon dioxide is GOOD for the biosphere!

At a minimum it tells us the panic over rising carbon dioxide levels is overblown and that it's certainly good for these little worms.

We we're told that ocean acidification was killing all the marine life but it appears to be just the opposite; plenty of worms and plenty of hosts for those worms. It's a golden age in the sea for salmon, anyway, and the worms they carry.

Just one more piece of evidence against the panic-laden climate change hysteria. I almost feel sorry for the alarmists; nothing predicted by their theory has come to pass.

Microplastic Contamination Caused by Lab Gloves

Timothy Birdnow

Hew boy! Science is being done by middle schoolers these days it seems!

So all this hysteria over microplastics may stem from procedural errors involving their lab gloves!

The summary:

March 29, 2026
Source:
University of Michigan
Summary:
Scientists may have been unknowingly inflating microplastics pollution estimates, and the surprising source could be their own lab gloves. A University of Michigan study found that common nitrile and latex gloves release tiny particles called stearates, which closely resemble microplastics and can contaminate samples during testing. In some cases, this led to wildly exaggerated results, forcing researchers to track down the unexpected culprit.
